The Chanticleers are looking to repeat their captivating performance that garnered the attention of ESPN’s Sports Center. Only this year they’re hoping not to be on the receiving end of the highlight reel as they take on powerhouse Penn State. Because on August 30, 2008 Coastal Carolina will play in front of 107,282 screaming Nittany Lion fans. Unless the Chanticleers become the predators instead of the prey, this won’t be the ideal way to start off the 2008 season. But then again they could be this year’s Appalachian State, who no one thought would upset Michigan. Anything can happen in NCAA football, and this year, Coastal is working hard to make sure it happens to them. With a lot of hard work and a little luck it can be done. But a victory in Beaver Stadium might not be a complete surprise to some. Coastal produced three NFL signees after last month’s drafts, one more than the Nittany Lions, which is proof that the talent is there. Come August, the Chanticleer’s biggest battle might be against the butterflies that come with national exposure, not the Lions. So when the last whistle has been blown, don’t be surprised if this battle has been conquered. That way you can be the one to say “I told you so” as the Chanticleers hold their helmets in the air.
