The interior of Calli Baker's
Calli Baker’s Firehouse Bar & Grill served hearty American food for over a decade on Lake Arrowhead Road in North Myrtle Beach. Recently – actually in early July of 2008 – the restaurant themed with honorary décor for the brave men and women in fire/rescue moved to a bigger and better location. They’re now next door neighbors with Hooters on the same property as the giant Bass Pro Shop Outdoor World situated at the Colonial Mall on N. Kings Highway.
It’s a great spot because motorists that exit Hwy. 31 onto Hwy. 17 northbound run right into it. Plus, the Tanger Outlets are less than a mile away. So how is Calli Baker’s handling the new move? Very well, if we say so ourselves.
The building where Calli Baker’s is now located is a large, casual style dining structure mostly square in design. The inside is a simple two option setup, where a guest can choose to sit in their dining section or grab a table in the bar area where the televisions are located. The bar area is similar to other sports bars, but it’s adorned with a few appealing touches.
A long mirror lines the back upper wall of the bar and tilts down to give bar sitters a perfect view of themselves while they sit. We love this feature – who doesn’t like to gaze at their reflection while they’re downing a cold one?
Futhermore, at the other end of the bar area, there’s a large leather couch encompassing a hanging flat screen television. Next to the couch area is a large stone fireplace. It’s a comforting scene similar to someone’s very cool basement.
The food is hearty. They must have had firemen appetites in mind when they planned the menu at Calli's. From their "Roll Call" appetizer menu to their "Coast Guard's Favorites" seafood selections, each dish is reasonably priced and in generous portions. The burgers are outstanding.
The most genuine aspect of Calli Baker’s is their catering to fireman nationwide. They hold special events for various Horry County stations, especially Station 7 that held their Christmas party at their old location. On the restaurant’s Web site, a kind plea to all fire stations is posted and reads “We are always looking for Memorabilia from Fire Departments and Police Departments (pictures, patches, etc). All donations will be mounted and displayed. Nothing will be thrown out or returned.”
