Hard Rock's new coaster disappointing

'Maximum RPM' quick, unfulfilling

Maximum RPM at Hard Rock

Hard Rock Park's new coaster "Maximum RPM" opened Monday after Father's Day to much anticipation. Crowds took to the line for the ride in droves.

While karaoke by a charming British girl keeps the wait somewhat entertaining, the ride itself is not worth any wait. On Monday's grand opening runs, the line looked undaunting. However, the average wait time from 6 to 9 p.m. was over one hour.

The coaster features a Ferris Wheel style boarding

To top it off, the actual ride lasts all but 35 seconds, and it features only one slightly thrilling first hill. Several riders were disappointed when the car finally came to a stop back at the beginning.

A bright spot is, again, music on board. Like many of the rides in Hard Rock, JBL speakers blast quality music while the ride is in motion. The design of the coaster is also innovative. It features a Ferris Wheel at the beginning which takes the car to the crest of the first hill. At the end, vertical scrubbers spin to simulate a car wash, consistent with the vehicle-style coaster car.

However the ride is lackluster. A few turns after the main hill - which has an exaggerated speedometer that digitally posts 160 mph - and the ride is over.

If there is any sort of line, wait in it. Then when you get to the boarding point, turn around and go on with the rest of your day.
