Hootie coming to HOB
Hootie and the Blowfish are no strangers to the low country lifestyle.
Lead singer Darius Rucker attended high school in Charleston before helping form the rock group Hootie and the Blowfish at the University of South Carolina. The rest of the founding members also attended USC.
Thursday Aug. 14 they will perform at the House of Blues in North Myrtle Beach. So far, tickets are sold out. No word has been released yet on whether or not additional tickets will be released.
It’s a venue The Blowfish have played before, and it’s in a city the band has already visited this year. North Myrtle Beach was the sight of their annual Monday After the Master’s Celebrity Golf Tournament played at the Dye Course in Barefoot Landing. It raises money for the Hootie and the Blowfish Foundation, among others.
The Hootie and the Blowfish Homegrown Concert this Thursday isn’t a normal show, either. Band members have asked their fans to bring school supplies for less-fortunate families to the concert. All the supplies that are collected that evening will be delivered to the local schools in the community.
The band has recorded seven studio albums to date, and has charted sixteen singles on various Billboard singles charts. Their debut album, Cracked Rear View, was one of the best selling albums of the 1990s, going platinum sixteen times.
