On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, the guns fell silent ending “the war to end all wars.”
From that moment on, Nov. 11 was called Armistice Day, honoring all the servicemen who fought in WWI.

In 1954, President Eisenhower declared that Nov. 11 shall be called Veterans Day, honoring all men and women who serve and have served their country in the Armed Forces.
In Myrtle Beach, several hundred gathered in the plaza in front of the Myrtle Beach Convention Center to honor our nation’s veterans. Members of Rolling Thunder presented the city with a POW/MIA flag to be flown in front of the convention center.
Veterans from WWII through the current Iraqi conflict were in attendance and lauded by the audience.
In Surfside Beach, public safety director Andy Christenson placed a wreath at the town’s Veterans Park on Surfside Drive.
The annual Surfside Beach event drew several dozen local residents and elected officials.
