The Long Bay Symphony Youth Orchestra kicks off their season with a concert on Nov. 20 at the Myrtle Beach High School Music and Arts Center at 7:30 pm.
Guest soloist is Dr. Jeffrey Jones from the Coastal Carolina University Music Department. He will be performing works from Handel’s Messiah and from Rossini’s Barber of Seville. Other music performed will be Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, movement 1, Mozart’s Symphony No. 26, Vaughan Williams Concerto Grosso, Strauss’ Kuss Waltz. The sponsor for this concert is Brightwater.
During the 2008-2009 season, the LBSYO will be performing three concerts at Myrtle Beach High School and one run-out concert in Marion. In April, the LBSYO will be joined by the Youth Orchestra of the Low Country from Charleston for a side-by-side concert as part of the Treasure of the Tidelands Festival in Georgetown County. The combined orchestras will perform as one large group that will be conducted by both Dr. Evans and Mr. Richard Marcus, director of the YoLow.
Besides playing in full orchestra concerts, many members of the LBSYO also perform in smaller chamber ensembles at various venues around Myrtle Beach.
