Ending a summer workweek is best done with live music at an outdoor venue. Thankfully, the folks at Market Common organized the Sun Fun Festival which is everything anyone loves about summer minus the grills (though with the many restaurants a mere stone’s throw away, food is very available.)
Though it’s across Farrow Parkway where you’ll find hundreds and hundreds of concert goers sitting in lawn chairs looking more comfortable than their own backyard.
The Sun Fun concert series is held every Friday night throughout the summer. Headliners have included local bands like Tru Sol and The Shakers, to well-known rockers Third Eye Blind.
To ring in the month of August, The Tams spiced up the lawn area across from the Common with their comedic Motown. The lead singer paraded around the rows and rows of lawn chairs with the microphone, asking the audience “Can I get a reeeaal whiteboy?”
The majority of attendees were older couples with children. It’s a great family-friendly event that seems to welcome bare feet and a good game of tag. The scenery is also perfect for the adults who choose to share a blanket. The lakes nearby add a touch of romance to the early evening’s setting sun, timed perfectly to the show’s start time.
