The 4 best places for Carolina Forest residents to find good SUSHI:
1. King Kong Sushi
A new-to-2008 sushi bar & grill in the Piggly Wiggly shopping center on Carolina Forest Blvd., King Kong Sushi is a swank locale with an absolutely beautiful sushi bar. A long glass window allows customers to see all the fresh ingredients that help make over 100 different kinds of rolls on the spot by the specially trained chef. Presentation is a must at King Kong. The servers carry large flat platters with a beautiful array of fresh rolls.
Visit King Kong for a night cap as their bar is open nightly until 2 a.m. Chances are you’ll appreciate the warm wooden walls and trendy artwork. And their Sushi is divine. Delivery is a go for anyone living in Carolina Forest or students at CCU.
NIGHTS TO VISIT: Tuesday is their Chopstick Challenge. Watch as participants vie for the best with sticks. Thursday seems to be college night. Packed wall to wall, patrons party the night away with music and television on two large flat-screens.
2. The Buddha Lounge
A very cool restaurant, bar and sushi place made even better by its amenities, The Buddha Lounge on N. Kings Hwy. in Myrtle Beach is a perfect spot for those who respect chic lifestyle.
Just a short drive down 501, The Buddha Lounge is located before 5’oclock Somewhere on Kings Hwy. It’s well worth the drive.
With a darker, more intimate setting than most full-service sushi joints, The Buddah Lounge has lit candles radiate the red walls and swanky marble bar. The sushi bar is just as impressive, with various rolls to choose from.
NIGHTS TO VISIT: Monday from 5 to 9 p.m. receive 50% off selected sushi rolls. Thursday is their college nights with drink specials and a live DJ. Check out their hookah bar on Thursday.
3. Ichiro’s
The brand new all Japanese steakhouse, Ichiro’s Japanese Steakhouse, hibachi and Sushi took the place of Desperado’s Steakhouse on Hwy. 501 directly in front of the Hampton Inn earlier this spring. Ichiro’s is definitely more formal than that of King Kong or Jimmy’s. Call ahead and make a reservation to beat the rush or request their curbside take-out service.
NIGHTS TO VISIT: Any lunch hour with specials from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
4. Jimmy’s Japanese Hibachi
The well-known hibachi spot in the Kroger shopping center off of Carolina Forest Blvd. also offers some very fresh, very delicious sushi. Their selection is no match to that of King Kong’s or any other mainly sushi restaurant, but it’s just as fresh and priced around $3 per roll.
It’s a perfect idea to order the spicy tuna roll in addition to your steak bowl.
NIGHTS TO VISIT: Any night, really. Jimmy’s delivers to all areas around Carolina Forest and CCU.
