Jon Konkel appeared on The Bachelorette
Myrtle Beach resident Jon Konkel was recently on national television series “The Bachelorette” which aired on ABC. He was a contestant trying to win the hand of an eligible single woman chosen by the network. LIFE caught up with Jon and asked him about his experience in the limelight.
Tell us your age, occupation and interests. 35, General Manager of a Resort (Springmaid Beach) , I enjoy spending time with friends, playing golf, working out, laying out by my pool, and most importantly- spending time with my family!
1. How did you end up starring on The Bachelorette? It started off as a joke: I received an E-mail from a girlfriend of mine, which stated that they were doing auditions in Charleston for the show.. Soo I came up with this brilliant plan to take three buddies of mine and make it a guys weekend. Two of my friends are married and can never do weekend get-a-ways, so this was the perfect opportunity to get them away from Myrtle Beach! I never really intended to audition, we were just going to peak our heads in and then continue bar hopping! When we got to the location - it was steady so my friends said do it - so I did!
2. Without being too specific, what kind of stipulations were set by ABC? - I singed a pretty extensive "confidentiality agreement" that stated I could not discuss where I was going, what I was doing, etc. etc. I was told to be completely silent with the entire process with everyone - even family!
3. What kind of aspects on the show were definitely "TV" and what kind of things were actually "reality?" Can't answer this one!
4. How is your daily life changed now that you have starred on television? Honestly, it really hasn't changed. I may get noticed in a restaurant or bar, but that's about it!
5. Did you find yourself falling in love with The Bachelorette? No - I did have quite a bit of interest in her, but never had enough time to get to know her!
6. How did being from Myrtle Beach help your chances? I don't know if it helped or not, but Deanna is from the south, so me being from a southern state that has one of the top tourist destinations in the country certainly didn't hurt my chances...
7. What kind of aspirations, if any, do you have now that you've starred on television? Movie career? TV career? You know, after being on the show-I don't foresee myself doing anymore Realty shows, but I wouldn't be opposed to doing some commercials, maybe some TV, but nothing too major. I love what I do!
8. Why do you feel you were eliminated by the bachelorette? What were her reasons? I think I was booted, because I didn't have enough time with her for her to really get to know me. Also, I didn't do anything crazy too stand out, which probably hurt my chances. I'm glad that I stayed true to myself and I have nothing to be ashamed of!
I think her reasons were because I wasn't tall, and dark headed.. If you noticed I was the only blonde guy on the show - I was the token blonde guy!
