Best Sports Bars in Myrtle Beach

There’s nothing that says March like the madness of the NCAA college basketball tournament.

It’s a magical time of year that’s become as synonymous chicken wings, cold beer and big screen TVs as it has with buzzer beaters, screaming fans and Cinderellas.

For many sports fans, nothing beats the rush of saddling up to a stool at your local sports bar and seeing the simultaneous action of dozens of games fly by in an afternoon of watching favorites to fall and praying to the basketball gods that your bracket remains in tact.

Luckily, there are no shortage of sports bars in Myrtle Beach and around the Grand Strand, so you won’t have to miss any of the action just because you’re on vacation.

Here’s a look at what I consider to be the best places to watch a game in the Myrtle Beach area:

Why It Made The List: Everything is sports-themed at this mecca of Myrtle Beach sports bars. From the wealth of sports memorabilia hanging from the walls and ceiling to a menu filled with options like “The Starting 5,” “Sudden Death Burger” and “Broad Street Bully.” Also, the dining room centers around a huge 12-foot tall video wall, there’s an enormous scoreboard-like structure scattered with flat screens hangs above the bar and there’s a huge game room to keep you busy during halftime.

Why It Made The List: Not only does this spacious spot offer plenty of places to sit — including a family-friendly dining room, large bar area and waterfront outdoor patio — but it also serves the what many consider to be the best wings in Myrtle Beach. The staff is friendly and loves sports and it’s a huge spot for NFL fans, including the North Myrtle Beach Browns Backers which call this place home.

Why It Made The List: This is favorite bar among locals. Handley’s Pub and Grub has a large patio, so you can still enjoy the weather while watching the games. This pub has 28 plasma and flat screen televisions. Handley’s also has 68 beers ranging from domestic to craft.

• Why it made the list: This product of Charleston, S.C., makes the most of its Myrtle Beach location at The Market Common. One of the most friendly, attentive (and attractive) staffs in town serves up great sandwiches, custom-made salads and awesome finger foods to keep you filled up during the big game. There’s lots of great beers on tap, the bar opens up to a great outdoor patio and the entire bar area is wrapped in football stadium mural. It’s also a popular spot for Steelers fans come Sundays in the fall.

• Why it made the list: Not as large as some of the others, but its newly-renovated interior is probably the best and brightest of any sports bar in Myrtle Beach. There’s a solid drink selection, tons of TVs, a huge scoreboard-like jumbo display and the food is good. The central location at Broadway at the Beach means there’s plenty for non-sports fans in your group to do nearby.

• Why it made the list: If you’ve visited this nationally-known sports bar chain elsewhere then you know what to expect at either Grand Strand location — one in North Myrtle Beach and another in the Carolina Forest area of Myrtle Beach. There’s a warm, fan-friendly atmosphere, 22oz. beers flowing like water and tons of great sauces for your wings, boneless wings or chicken sandwiches. Park near a TV, play some NTN trivia and enjoy!

• Why it made the list: Not to be confused with the Myrtle Beach location, just up from the Skywheel (which is also great), this combination sports bar and deli serves up what I consider the best sandwiches on the Grand Strand. They’re packed high with thinly-sliced meat stacked on fresh-baked bread and served made-to-order with chips, pasta salad or potato salad. Dagwood’s also offers lots of bar seating, big, cozy booths with their own TVs, a pool area and outdoor patio.

• Why it made the list: There’s a reason this place has been going strong for more than 25 years. This “home away from home” for Pittsburgh sports fanatics, is fun for fans of all allegiances and serves great sandwiches and burgers. It has recently gone smoke-free and freshened things up with a new coat of paint and some other modern tweaks.

• Why it made the list: You had me a “beer table” on this one. The bar is equipped with a pair of round DraftMaster tables which each seat up to eight people and offer self-serve draft beer from a keg within the table. You simply pay for what you drink. There’s also a menu of good food and southern BBQ options, a great lunch buffet, big booths with their own TVs and a friendly staff.

• Why it made the list: This Restaurant Row area sports bar has one of the best happy hours in Myrtle Beach with $1 drafts, $4 appetizers and a lively crowd of sports fans, locals and visitors. There’s also a patio which faces the Intracoastal Waterway, plenty of flat-screen TVs and a draped-off VIP room with an awesome TV setup if you want to go the full nine yards.
