Gordo’s brings authentic Mexican flavor near Ocean Boulevard

When you want Taco Tuesday to be every day, head over to Gordo’s Tacos and Tequila, near Ocean Boulevard and across from its sister restaurant, The Chemist. Part of the well-known Bondfire Restaurant Group of Myrtle Beach, Gordo’s is now over a year old and still partying every weekend like the youngin’ it is.

Cheerful colors on the walls outside will attract attention and the artistic decorations inside will keep customers engaged. Bright and colorful lighting illuminates the restaurant’s funky flair that has the touch of its employees, who helped decorate the building before its opening last year.

Guests can be seated at a table or booth, while some may prefer the bar with the spinning old school bicycle overhead. Despite only starting its second year recently, Gordo’s has a well-loved and quite laidback feeling to it. It wouldn’t be out of place for customers to stop by with some of the salt air and sand from the beach following them.

As most can infer from the name, tacos and tequilas abound although the restaurant hasn’t limited itself to just the two. Fajitas, quesadillas, and nachos are available, even a big burrito which can be easily become a burrito bowl for the same price. Where needed, Gordo’s uses their handmade corn or flour tortillas that can come either soft or crunchy.

The tacos come out three to a plate looking very much like authentic street tacos, so guests shouldn’t be afraid to dig in and get a little messy. Marinated pork and chicken are popular choices but naturally steak is on the menu, plus vegetarian options, and even seafood and duck. Hot sauces are available to add some more kick to the food or sour cream for a more American taste.

Though the tortillas are small, they come loaded with the toppings, which make the tacos very filling simply on their own. However, customers can order sides for a few extra dollars like beans and rice or the flavorful street corn. This popular side comes smothered in cotija cheese and a delicious chipotle aioli.

Every day, Gordo’s has Happy Hour from 4-7 p.m. with regular deals and daily specials. Naturally this has to include a deal on Tuesdays for 25 percent off tacos and tequilas. Weekend nights see the restaurant turn into a tiny dance club, complete with a DJ and the occasional salsa lessons. Gordo’s has other specials that come and go, some for the season, some for a week, so haunting their social media page is a pretty good idea.

For taco lovers of all ages, Gordo’s is a fun place to visit, plus it’s in a convenient location in Myrtle Beach, especially for visitors hanging out on the boulevard. There always seems to be a little party going on inside, which tacos (and tequila) can only make better.
