A fresh take on a favorite cuisine, Luna Mexican Bar and Grill is a delicious addition to the restaurant scene in Murrells Inlet. With a few months of experience under its belt, Luna is already becoming a popular choice for many in the South Strand.
As part of the Woodside Village shopping center, the exterior of the restaurant shares the same façade whereas the inside is where Luna stands out. Rustic meets contemporary in a way that is charming and open, from the basket lamps hanging from the ceiling to the sleek bar lit up a soft blue.
Tall booths provide some semblance of privacy for smaller parties, while tables are available for larger groups. After being seated, complimentary chips are promptly provided, along with three choices for dipping, all fresh and delicious in their own way.
The menu mimics the theme of the restaurant with some classic Mexican dishes that have a stylish flair. Guests can order an array of appetizers to the table, such as guacamole tableside, where the servers will do just as the name indicates and make the dip right at the table. Because the lunch menu is only available until 3 p.m., it can be a bustling time for the restaurant.
Each day of the week has a different lunch special that are $8.99, like the vegetarian enchiladas or the pollo al chipotle. The rest of the lunch menu doesn’t go above $13.99 and has options like carne asada and quesadillas. Fajitas are a popular choice and come with either flour or house made corn tortillas, and delicious toppings, including black beans, rice, and guacamole.
Tacos, enchiladas, chimichangas and more fill up the rest of the menu, plus a section for children less than 10 years of age. The dessert section is a massive temptation, even for those who’ve already filled up. For example, Luna’s Pastel de Tres Leches is perfectly creamy and sweet, but also sits in a smattering of fresh berries and burnt goat milk cajeta.
The full service bar has developed their own menu, with classics like the Mojito and their own concoctions such as the Luna and the Inlet margaritas. If tequila is your vice, try one of their Tequila Flights, both of which come with three tequilas from different distilleries.
The prices may seem a little higher than typical Mexican restaurants, but Luna has taken a step beyond typical in combining traditional with modern. The executive chef frequently makes rounds on the floor, asking questions and congenially acknowledging comments.
All of this goes to show just how much a labor of love Luna is. For a new experience in a familiar cuisine, Luna is ready to whisk you and your taste buds away, to the moon and back.
Figuratively speaking, of course.
