Art, innovation and music top events along the Grand Strand for the coming week

Dawn Corley

An art exhibit started this week at Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum in Myrtle Beach titled “Steven Bleicher: The Kings Highway.”

Bleicher, a Coastal Carolina University professor of visual arts, combines his viewpoint with this travels and observations along Kings Highway.

The exhibit runs through April 22.

Regular gallery hours will be from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, 1-4 p.m. Sundays.

“His impressions are distilled into mixed-media compositions that combine photorealistic graphite renderings developed from site sketches and photographs with corresponding road maps and found objects,” according to a press release from the museum.

Admission to the opening reception – and to the museum at all times – is free. For further information, call 843-238-2510 or visit www.MyrtleBeachArtMuseum.org.

The Horry County Historical Society will host Dawn Corley, “The Charleston Silver Lady,” at 1 p.m. Jan. 13 upstairs in Conway City Hall, the Robert Mills building. Admission free.

Corley lives in Lexington and has a silver and antique shop in Lexington and one in Charleston. She is considered an expert and evaluated the artifacts from the Hunley in Charleston and frequently travels to Washington as a consultant for the Smithsonian.

The Arts @ the Church program presents a Piano and Organ Concert by Diana Scroggins and Janice James at 3 p.m. Jan. 14 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, on Glenns Bay Road in Surfside Beach.

The concert is free. Any donations go to the performers.

The 5thT Innovation Group is hosting the inaugural Entrepreneur Showcase at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 18 at the Lib Jackson theater at Coastal Carolina University. The event will showcase six local entrepreneurs from the Grand Strand who will present in a “shark tank”-type event before a panel of judges and a live audience. The audience will be able to vote for the best presentation and prizes will be awarded.

The event is free and members of the public are invited to attend and be a part of the voting audience. For reservations, go to www.innovationgrandstrand.com.
