Guy Daniels Memorial Foundation Surfoff in Surfside Beach reaches 18th year

The 18th annual Guy Daniels Memorial Foundation Surfoff continues making waves in benefiting college scholarships and its “Respect the Beach” campaign to keep beaches clean.

The competition, free to see, is 8 a.m. Saturday-Sunday, July 29-30 in the Atlantic Ocean, at 13th Avenue South in Surfside Beach, again with a pro-am division, with $2,000 in cash prizes. Registration at surfoff.com in 23 divisions, spanning all ages and skill levels, was slated to end Thursday, July 27.

The surfoff’s in memory of Guy Daniels, a lifelong Surfside Beach resident who died in 1999 at age 19, and was a College of Charleston student who spent his summers as a lifeguard in Surfside Beach and worked at a local surf shop. More than $100,000 in scholarships have been shared by more than 60 students, too.

A “Push-In/Novice” heat will return, as well a “Kids Activity Tent.” Parking is free in the lot on 13th Avenue South, and free, overflow parking is available on roadsides nearby. Be sure to park in the direction of traffic and keep vehicle tires off the pavement, and do not park near a stop sign, on lawns or reserved areas, or block a driveway.

More details at 843-655-1434, or mail the foundation at P.O. Box 14134, Surfside Beach, SC 29587.
