Barefoot Landing is one of those fun places that tourists look forward to visiting every year. When my family used to vacation in Myrtle Beach, we always found time to visit Barefoot Landing several times during our stay to enjoy dinner, the nightly entertainment, and of course, walk in and out of several shops.
But as locals we tend to hibernate during the summer from the obvious tourist attractions. I still frequent the many good restaurants at Barefoot Landing during the week, often for happy hour, but do not stay to walk around. So when my friends Gail (from Philadelphia) and Jackie (from DC) wanted to go to dinner at Barefoot Landing I had concerns – but being the good hostess, I agreed.
The night began with a dinner of appetizers and cocktails from Flying Fish. My friends were looking for good calamari and we found that and a lot more! Dinner and service was wonderful so the night started off well. After overeating we needed to walk.
It was a beautiful night and we enjoyed walking in and out of the shops. I especially enjoyed the strolling entertainers — from the one on stilts making balloons to the magician who had the kids in audience entranced.
The reality is there is much to do for the whole family. We watched as the children enjoyed the MirrorMaze, an attraction with over 2,000 square feet of mirrors where you are challenged to find your way out, and the T.I.G.E.R.S. Preservation display, where you can watch the cubs and the large cats and have your picture taken with one of the animals.
There are many fun” touristy” stores that are still fun to go to such as Tiki Jims, where you can spend an hour just reading the sayings on the t-shirts, to the General Store where you can find almost anything.
I would be remiss not to mention such popular attractions as the House of Blues, which offers entertainment every night for a week, such as concerts, the comedy shows, murder mystery dinner, and dancing on the deck. The Alabama Theatre, the Alligator Adventure, and the Barefoot Princess dinner cruise are also great options, but we will save them for another week.
So if you are looking for a great happy hour, dinner or interesting shops, come on out and spend some time at Barefoot Landing. Before you leave, make sure you take a ride on the Carousel and pick up some home-made candy to take home…if it lasts that long.
Until next week … enjoy all the Grand Strand has to offer.
Since July 2011, Sherrie has been living in North Myrtle Beach and sharing the best that the Grand Strand has to offer. From people to events, Grand Strand Happening is your source for everything fun from Little River to Murrells Inlet.
