The history and survival of shag dancing in Myrtle Beach and coastal Carolinas

Dancers take to the floor at OD Pavilion for the 2017 SOS Spring Safari. The Society of Stranders (S.O.S.) Spring Safari kicked off on Saturday, April 22 with Shag dancing at clubs in North Myrtle Beach. Thousands are expected to attend the 10-day dance party with popular beach music bands, DJs, and dance lessons throughout the event. The SOS parade happens Saturday, 29th at 1pm on Main Street in North Myrtle Beach.

Spanish Galleon Beach Club

Inside the walls of this happening nightlife hotspot you’ll find great DJs, live music from the best Carolina Beach music bands and lots and lots of folks doing the Shag, the official state dance of South Carolina.
