One of the newest additions in Murrells Inlet has garnered some excitement from locals of the South Strand. J Peters Grill and Bar is a small but growing franchise in South Carolina, with a location in Georgia and North Carolina as well. Behind the Inlet Square Mall, this recent opening has joined the Pawleys Island location in bringing flavorful meals with great service.
Founded by successful restauranteur Jonathan P. Angell, J Peters is the culmination of his and his team’s vision and hard work. The menu is filled with recipes directly from his hands, assuring the quality of each. Many of the sauces are made in house as well, adding to that unique J Peters flavor.
Each J Peters location has an upscale pub type of feel, complete with a classy full bar and signature cocktails, and the Murrells Inlet spot is no different. Though there are some variations by location, an array of red, white, and sparkling wine is available ranging from $6 to $10 per glass.
The menu starts with appetizers, like the restaurant’s delicious honey croissants, which come out fresh and perfectly flakey. Another popular choice is the she-crab soup, an original recipe with a generous amount of crab and cooked with dry sherry to create a creamy appetizer. However, the amount of soup is closer to a bowl than a cup, so this delicious soup can almost be a meal in itself.
Main meals range from sandwiches to steaks, such as the slow-roasted prime rib the business has become known for. All entrees come with a salad and the guest’s choice of one side. Even the side salads are of substantial size and come with a honey croissant. Many guests may find themselves filled up before the entrees arriving, earning a knowing laugh from friendly servers.
Seafood dishes like the Mahi Mahi and salmon are available, and a few simple pasta dishes round the menu out. Customers can enjoy sides like seasoned broccoli, fresh collard greens, and mashed potatoes, but also regular or sweet potato fries.
J Peters has everything needed for a casual date night, even if the kids have to come along too. A children’s menu has a small amount of options to keep everyone happy, like a grilled cheese sandwich or hamburger. And to finish a visit off just right, there are decadent desserts of ample size, much like the rest of the menu, and as such are easy to share.
The name alone has brought people to its doors, and so far the J Peters in Murrells Inlet is living up to the expectation spectacularly. Without sacrificing quality, this restaurant has balanced class and comfort perfectly.
