Even if you’ve never had the chance to experience homemade southern cooking, Mama Jean’s in Little River is looking to fix that. For over 20 years, Mama Jean’s has been working to provide the community with meals that are just like “yo mama’s.”
This restaurant has become well known in the area for their breakfast buffet as well.
Early in the morning, the restaurant is already bustling and everyone is greeted cheerfully. Guests are encouraged to seat themselves and the team of servers work well together in making sure every table is taken care of. One cup of coffee or tea can be refilled indefinitely, keeping those perfect morning beverages hot.
Standard southern breakfast fare is abundant at Mama Jean’s, and guests have plenty of choice for the size and type. The not so hungry can order one biscuit with gravy or one pancake, while breakfast lovers can double or triple the size of the basics and add a plethora of sides, such as fresh fruit or scrapple.
Other filling meals include the Sportsman Special that comes with three pancakes, three eggs and your choice of bacon or sausage. The omelet plates are massive as well and these meals come with your choice of grits, homefries, or hashbrowns, plus a slice of toast or one of Mama Jean’s delicious butter biscuits.
Many locals stop by for Mama Jean’s cafeteria styled lunch that begins at 11 a.m. during the week. Guests have a few different plate options like one meat and two sides. Every day has a bit of variety, such as spaghetti on Wednesdays and barbeque ribs on Thursdays. There is a lunch menu too, made mostly of sandwiches.
Both the breakfast and lunch buffets are only available on the weekends from 7:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. respectively. Though the buffets are all you can eat, the team does ask that guests only take what they can actually eat in order to prevent waste. This also means that like all buffets, guests cannot take food with them when they leave.
Having over two decades of experience preparing large amounts of food, Mama Jean’s also provides party packs and catering services. Events with dozens of people can be taken care of with Mama Jean’s help with multiple menu options, including the most important meal of the
Whether guests order off the menu or take a trip to the buffet, the hard working team behind the counter does their best to ensure the food is freshly prepared and piping hot. The prices are affordable and the service lives up to southern hospitality standards. For the people of Little River and those driving through, Mama Jean’s is sure to be a good start to the day.
