When good food is the family business, the customers know they will be taken care of. In the Lowe’s Food shopping center of Little River, just a hop, skip and a jump from the North Carolina border, Papa’s Pizza has been faithfully serving its customers for years now. The restaurant’s food and service continues to draw people in from all around, even from across the border.
This family-run restaurant keeps the quality high by making their dough fresh daily. Using a secret family recipe, the pizza sauce is made in house as well and left to marinate for 24 hours before use. The chicken the team uses for wings is fresh and cooked to order, so there might be a bit of a wait; although, this means the food will come out piping hot.
Though a pizza place, Papa’s has some variety on the menu for all sorts of tastes to be met. Their appetizers include nachos, a quesadilla or a basket of house-made pub chips. Veggies are abound in the soups and salads, some with meat and some strictly vegetarian.
What so many guests come for is the pizza, which can be customized from crust up or ordered off the specialty menu, with which guests should keep in mind they won’t be allowed to substitute different toppings. The sizes go from a personal 10-inch pie to a whopping 20-incher, and though the original pizzas can vary wildly in prices, the specialty pies share the same prices.
Entrees and sandwiches wrap up the rest of the menu, with classics gracing both sides. Great Italian favorites like lasagna, spaghetti and alfredo are popular choices, but the parmesan meals should not be overlooked, with delicious options like the veal or eggplant. All the entrees come with a side soup or salad.
The restaurant’s sandwiches include toasted 8-inch hoagies, which is perfect for the club and parmesan sandwiches. Pub chips, buffalo chips or French fries accompany these meals, just as crispy as the toasted bread. Between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. there are lunch specials in which guests can enjoy discounted meals or the daily specials.
Happy hour is from 2 p.m.-6 p.m., during which adults can enjoy beer on tap from $1.55 or spend $2.75 for a glass of wine. Customers on the go can call ahead (with two phone numbers for both states) and pick up their order from the restaurant’s drive-thru.
If you’re on the road to Calabash, N.C., or coming from our northern neighbor, Papa’s Pizza is a worthy rest stop, with great specials and filling meals. And of course, being a family-run restaurant means the team at Papa’s tends to treat everyone who walks through the door like family.
