Are you looking for a new film to watch? Why not try something with a few familiar views? You may not realize how many movies have filmed right here in Horry County.
“Myrtle Beach provided invaluable locations for the film’s production which perfectly captured the setting and tone we envisioned for the story, said Michelle Harding, director of photography, executive
producer and film editor for the short film “Among the Stars.”
“We needed a location that was serene, one of reflection for one of our lead characters, Michael (played by Russell Shealy),” she said. “Myrtle Beach is naturally gorgeous with stunning sunsets, so it was easy to pick it for filming part of our film.”
“Among the Stars” premiered December 9th, at Frank Theatres in Conway. The short film will again be shown in January with the Carolina Film Network at Tapps Art Center in Columbia. The date for this showing and others to be announced at a later time.

Shag (1989) – Set in the summer of 1963, four teenage girls head to Myrtle Beach for a secret adventure. Before Carson (Phoebe Cates) is to be married, she and her friends escape for a few days filled with shag dancing, booze and cute boys. This film also stars Bridget Fonda, Page Hannah and Annabeth Gish.
Swimming (2000) – A drama, Frankie (Lauren Ambrose) and her brother Neil (Josh Pais) run a beachfront hamburger restaurant in Myrtle Beach. Both Frankie and Neil build relationships with other venders in the area and learn how to handle the stresses of work, friendships and relationships.
Honeymoon from Hell (2016) – Originally titled “The Legend of Alice Flagg” this film premiered on the Lifetime Channel. It tells the story of newlyweds Julia and River McCoy (played by Lexi Giovagnoli and Adam Hagenbuch) who are stranded at a coastal bed and breakfast during a hurricane. Julia begins seeing a ghostly figure whom she believes to be the ghost of Alice Flagg.
Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken (1991)- Senora Webster (Gabrielle Anwaras) runs away from her troubled home to travel with a county fair. She begins working as a stable hand and works her way up to being a rider of diving horses. In this dramatic story filled with heartache and triumph, Senora’s story makes for an enjoyable film.
Magic Mike XXL (2015) – In this sequel to Magic Mike, Mike (Channing Tatum) meets back up with his former dance mates and decides to join them in their quest to Myrtle Beach for a stripping convention. Mikes helps to update their routine while in route. This film is filled with laughs and several familiar views.
All She Wishes (2015) – Sophie O’ Dea (Lexi Giovagnoli) is a high school girl who receives a car with magical powers. When she wishes for a date to the school dance she gets more than she bargained for when an up-and-coming actor named Drake (Calum Worthy) shows up.
Chasers (1994) – Two United States Navy shore patrollers Eddie Devane and Chief Petty Officer Rock Reilly (Tom Berenger and William McNamara) are assigned to escort a prisoner from Camp Lejeune one day before Devane’s discharge. What they didn’t expect was for the prisoner to be a beautiful blonde named Toni (Erika Eleniak) who has a plan of her own.
Don’t Make Waves (1967) – Based on the 1959 novel “Muscle Beach”, by Ira Wallach, this comedy stars Tony Curtis and Claudia Cardinale. It follows a series of love triangles set on the beach of Southern California.
Accidentally Engaged (2016) – An actress named Clarissa (Lexi Giovagnoli) returns to her hometown and attempts to impress her old friends with an elaborate lie about dating a famous celebrity.
Ocean Drive Weekend (1985) – A couple of college fraternity boys head to North Myrtle Beach in the 1960’s in search of girls and a wild weekend in North Myrtle Beach.
The Nutty Professor II The Klumps (2000) – A scientist named Sherman Klump (Eddie Murphy) is preparing for his upcoming marriage to his love Denis Gaines (Janet Jackson) while trying to rid his evil alter-ego Buddy before he can ruin their special day.
Fall Time (1995) – Steve Alden, David Arquette and Stephen Baldwin star in this crime drama about a mock bank robbery which interferes with an actual bank robbery.
All Hallows’ Eve (2016) – A family friendly film about a girl named Eve (Lexi Giovagnoli) who discovers she is a witch on her birthday and her adventures with her new found powers.
Chain Gang (1984) – Mac McPherson (Earl Owensby) is sentenced to prison for a crime he didn’t commit. He breaks free and attempts to prove his innocence.
Stateside (2005) – Starring Jonathan Tucker and Rachael Leigh Cook this is the story of a Marine on leave falls in love with an actress who suffers from schizophrenia.
