Strap on your blue suede shoes and get ready to be all shook up when the 7th Annual Elvis Tribute Artist Preliminary Contest rolls into town at Legends in Concert theater in Myrtle Beach on Saturday, May 31 at 7 p.m.
This annual event is open to the public and has become a hot ticket for fans of "The King" in recent years, with nearly a dozen of the best tribute artists from around the region taking the stage.
Each of these artists is vying for a chance to compete in the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest finals in Memphis, Tenn., held in August during "Elvis Week".
Contestants will have the chance to impresses the judges with their tributes to the King of Rock 'n Roll, singing one song from Elvis Presley's massive collection of hits.
The first place winner will receive $1,000; second place wins $300 and third place takes home $200.
Radio personality and avid Elvis fan, Lou Krieger, returns as the emcee for this year’s contest.
Melissa Armstrong, Marketing Director for Broadway at The Beach, WPDE’s Carolina & Company host Cecil Chandler, and long-time Myrtle Beach area radio personality "Freakin’" Deacon Dawson, will serve as this year’s judges.
The event will also feature a special guest appearance by Myrtle Beach’s current Legends Elvis tribute artist, Leo Days, who will be performing at Legends In Concert theater in Myrtle Beach all summer long.
“This year’s contest marks our 7th time hosting this popular contest,” said Jason Aiesi, general manager of Legends in Concert Myrtle Beach. “Elvis fans from all over the Carolinas have come to love this annual competition featuring Elvis tributes from around the United States, and this year is no exception!”
